About Nationals

The Canadian Sprint CanoeKayak Championships attracts over 1,200 athletes from more than 40 clubs across Canada, making it CanoeKayak Canada’s largest event.   The National Championships is the pinnacle event where athletes compete for their Club and the sport is truly celebrated through five days of intense competition and many social events that bring together paddlers from coast to coast.

The Championships rotate between divisions in Canada. A volunteer Host Organizing Committee is established at the local level and manages and delivers this exceptional event.

Lake Banook in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia – City of Lakes, first hosted  the National Championships in 1971, again in 1977, and since then has been home to this historic event every four years (in the Olympic year) since1980.  Following the 2016 event we will move to a five year hosting cycle.

The 2016 Canadian Sprint CanoeKayak Championships will be hosted on beautiful Lake Banook once again from August 30th – September 3rd, 2016 continuing to celebrate our deep historical canoeing roots and rich event hosting experience.
